Goat Milk Soap: Why use it?

Today I wanted to talk a little about my experience with goat milk soap, and the benefits of doing so!

I've never had any allergies or reactions to soaps and lotions, but occasionally I would breakout from something over scented. More commonly though, I'd find myself with extremely dry skin that just couldn't be quenched with lotion. I realized that many of the powerfully scented body washes and soaps left my skin feeling "squeaky clean," stripping away any natural oils and not rehydrating my skin. When I made the switch to goat's milk soap, I noticed an improvement after just a few days!

I was originally opposed to giving up my "Big Brand" body soaps because I loved the sudsy loofah and the scent that filled the shower. I'm happy to report, I've been able to maintain both by using the soaps available in my shop! This goat's milk soap still bubbles and foams, working into a luxurious lather that was hard to distinguish from the chemical-filled liquid body washes I was previously using. As for the scents, they are lighter and natural- which, if I'm being honest, took a little getting used to. I mentioned the same issue when I made the switch to natural laundry detergent. You can read about my experience here.

Smelling a very strong artificial "Green Apple" scent is much different than a naturally made "Lavender." After I made the switch I noticed that over time,  I'm starting to prefer the lighter notes found in the goat's milk soap. Walking past the over-fragerenced stores actually gives me a headache: scent overload!

If you google "benefits of goat milk soap" PAGES of information and research show up citing the amazing benefits. I'm going to list a few of the best reasons to make the switch:

As I already mentioned:

  • Goat milk is moisturizing. It cleanses without leaving my skin feeling tight or too dry.  The high-fat content cream that is present in goat milk helps boost the moisturizing quality of goat milk soaps.
  • It produces a very nice lather. A foamy, creamy lather that rinses clean without any sticky or slimy residue.
  • They're definitely scented; but these are gentle, light scents that don't overpower. I love leaving the shower feeling and smelling fresh and clean instead of smelling like "Sweet Pea" (Which isn't even what sweet peas smell like!)
Other amazing benefits:
  • It’s gentle yet powerful. Goat milk soap has been proven effective in helping to manage and even eliminate acne and eczema. This is because goat's milk has anti-bacterial properties that delay the growth of microbial organisms that cause acne.
  • Goat milk soaps are loaded with vitamins and minerals that help to repair damaged skin tissue, maintain healthy skin, possibly prevent sun damage and even skin cancer! Since the skin is the largest organ, it also absorbs some of these nutrients and they enter the body/bloodstream too.

Overall I can't say enough good things about goat milk soaps! I love them and will continue to use goat milk soap exclusively for my family. Have you tried goat milk soaps in your home? Let me know what you think in the comments!

I love this soap! I don’t usually buy products that aren’t at my fingertips when I run to the grocery store, but I was surprised and pleased that I liked my soap much better than what I usually buy. It’s well worth it.

The wife of a man my hubby use to work with visited the other day and somehow it came up that her daughter makes goat milk soap. She loves it, and I told her I want to try some. Strong scents burn my eyes since I’ve gotten older. I think I would love it! Thanks for sharing with SYC.
