The new look of sugar & succulents: scandinavian farmhouse inspired

Now that I've introduced the concepts that inspired the brand refresh, I thought I'd show off some of my decor inspirations.  After narrowing down the "feel" of the brand I went digging around Pinterest and google to see what stuck out to me. Over and over I was drawn to the same bright whites and neutrals; but less clutter and more structured spaces.  I love incorporating natural elements, such as woven baskets or wooden planters against the clean crisp whites and modern cement pieces. After searching around I've found a few blogs that keep me coming back for more inspiration: Nordic Design County Road Living My Scandinavian Home I know it's not entirely necessary to define a style, but if I were to...

What is Hygge?

What is Hygge? Hygge is a Scandinavian concept. This Danish word doesn't translate directly into English, but my own understanding of the definition involves encompassing a cozy feeling of  a  contentment and well-being by indulging in the simple things in life. Sounds like heaven to me!  Last week, I explained how the KonMari method helped me to take a step away from the extremes of minimalism while decluttering my material goods. Just as defining objects that sparked joy was a step away from minimalism, I think hygge is another step from the KonMari method. While it also encourages a simple lifestyle, hygge also embraces my favorite "treat-yourself" mentality to indulge in little pleasures- like a designer candle or yummy slice of cake.  How I've incorporated this idea in my...

The KonMari Method

Welcome to my second post in this introduction series! I hope you enjoyed my take on minimalism and how I've incorporated it into my life and business. Today I'm going to touch on a second method that I think was also very helpful in finding the new brand. What is the KonMari Method? I highly suggest you read the book, The Life Changing Magic of Tidying: A Simple, Effective Way To Banish Clutter Forever by Marie Kondo. Marie Kondo created this process of tidying, which essentially has a very simple concept: if you don't love something, get rid of it. There are a few websites and social media groups of dedicated KonMari-ers determined to make the most of this tidying technique if you're looking for extra support in this journey.  How has this...

What Minimalism means to me- Simplifying belongings: declutter, organize, and refresh.

Simplifying belongings: declutter, organize, and refresh. Today I'm giving a brief description of what minimalism means to me, and how I've incorporated this into my life and shop.    What is minimalism? To me, minimalism is a lifestyle that focuses on limiting material possessions in pursuit of a more valuable existence. That's a pretty deep statement, but essentially having less "stuff" allows you to more clearly see what values, hobbies, actives, and even people are important. By reducing unnecessary possessions, we can make room for what matters in our hearts and homes.  How has this concept changed my life? I think the idea of being a minimalist is different for everyone, and there shouldn't be a standard of how many items you "can" have or "should" keep.  Once I...

Maternity: Embracing change

For me, this pregnancy has resulted in a lot of growth; and I don't just mean my waistline. Since the day I found out about this little one, I've been simultaneously excited and terrified about this journey. This may be the first time I've ever had such a huge change happening to me with no control; and that's such a different experience in itself.  In a way, I can see this new helplessness as preparation for motherhood. Things don't always go as planned, I can't control or create every perfect scenario and I'm learning to accept that life can be perfectly imperfect. Pregnancy has also taught me more about what I value and what's important; which I think has been a major...
